Octave One
Octave One are Detroit techno pioneers and sibling-duo whose soulful, hardware-driven sound has shaped global dance music for over three decades. From the timeless anthem Blackwater to their latest EP The Question, they deliver electrifying music and performances on the world’s biggest stages.
The brothers got their roots in the Motor City in 1990, debuting on Derrick May’s influential Transmat compilation with “I Believe”. Since then, they quickly established a signature sound blending soulful melodies, driving rhythms and live hardware performance ethos.
Their 2000 hit “Blackwater” remains one of electronic music’s most iconic anthems which has sold over a million copies worldwide, charting in the UK and becoming a staple in DJ sets from Little Louie Vega to Jeff Mills and Richie Hawtin. Across the decades, "Blackwater" has been reworked and reinterpreted, including a memorable strings arrangement with the Urban Soul Orchestra in London which cemented its status beyond the club floor.
In recent years, Octave One have continued to innovate both in the studio and on stage. Their 2024/25 output includes a slew of releases on their own 430 West label, and the vibrant "The Question" EP, featuring the "Made In Detroit" mixes, which channels their deep techno roots into fresh, immersive grooves that still resonate in modern sets and streaming playlists.
Live, Octave One remain one of electronic music’s most electrifying and legendary acts. Known for high-impact performances built around live sequencers and analog gear, they continue to light up global stages like Boiler Room Festival Berlin (see video below) and blessing many international club and festival stages.
Their legacy as producers, performers and Detroit ambassadors is matched by their influence on generations of artists, with a discography that spans techno, house, experimental and crossover electronic music. Octave One continue to be the defining figures for the future of electronic music.
