Indian Askin
Indian Askin is the self-proclaimed “nu-punk band” led by Amsterdam-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Nelson ‘Chino’ Ayala.
Bursting onto the Dutch indie rock scene in 2016 with their punk-charged debut Sea of Ethanol, the band made an immediate impact. The album entered the Dutch charts at #8 and earned Indian Askin an Edison Award for Best Newcomer in 2017, firmly establishing them as a band to watch.
Their second album, Another Round (2019), revealed a broader sonic palette, proving that Indian Askin was never interested in standing still. That sense of constant evolution continued with the release of their third studio album, Lonely Citizen, at the end of 2023. Eclectic, layered, and emotionally resonant, Lonely Citizen builds on the foundations of its predecessor while pushing further into three-dimensional arrangements and introspective themes. Despite the stylistic growth, a clear common thread remains: individuality at the core of every song.
Indian Askin’s most recent single, Flip A Coin, captures the band in a confident new phase. Balancing raw energy with refined production, the track explores uncertainty, choice, and risk, driven by urgency and melodic tension. It signals that the band’s creative momentum is far from slowing down.
Nelson’s songwriting is shaped by a rich mix of influences, from his Paraguayan (Guaraní) roots to a lifelong obsession with ’90s punk rock and grunge. After honing his production skills alongside Peter Kriek and Ariaan Olieroock (16BL/Cubicolor), his vision has continued to sharpen.
Live, Indian Askin is reinforced by drummer Marc van Dongen, bassist Jasja Offermans, guitarist/keyboardist Berend Konink, and vocalist Funda Sevis. With new music and a tour planned for February 2025, one thing is clear: there is much more to come.
